StockGeniuses combines information from specialist financial-data providers with internally calculated metrics, defined investing frameworks, and AI-assisted explanations. This page explains where that information comes from, what the platform calculates, how information becomes an analytical result, and the limitations users should understand.

Our approach to financial information
Investors should be able to understand where information comes from and how an analytical result was produced.
Specialist providers supply the underlying company, financial, market, news, and event information. StockGeniuses prepares the relevant inputs, calculates selected metrics, applies defined investing frameworks, and organizes the resulting evidence into a structured analysis.
Information displayed in StockGeniuses may be:
- reported by a company and supplied through a financial-data provider;
- standardized or calculated by a provider;
- calculated by StockGeniuses from selected inputs;
- produced by a StockGeniuses investing model;
- generated as an AI-assisted explanation; or
- entered by the user as part of their research and decision history.
Where appropriate, the product displays reporting periods, timestamps, market status, freshness labels, model assumptions, or other context that helps users interpret the information they are reviewing.
Our data providers
StockGeniuses uses Financial Modeling Prep and Finnhub as its principal financial-data providers. Each provider has a different role within the platform.
FMP
Company fundamentals and historical financial information
Financial Modeling Prep supplies structured company, financial, and historical market information used across core metrics, company analysis, and StockGeniuses investing frameworks.
Depending on company and market coverage, this may include:
- company profiles and reference information;
- annual and quarterly financial statements;
- historical financial results;
- key financial metrics and ratios;
- historical prices and trading information;
- market capitalization and shares outstanding;
- dividends and stock splits;
- earnings information and corporate calendars;
Finnhub
Current market context, company news, and events
Finnhub supplies information used to provide timely context around individual companies and supported markets.
Depending on company and market coverage, this may include:
- latest-available stock quotes;
- daily price changes and trading ranges;
- market open or closed status;
- company-specific news;
- earnings and company events;
- analyst recommendation trends;
- supported news sentiment information;
- other supplementary company and market data;
Different providers, defined responsibilities
StockGeniuses assigns an intended source and preparation process to each supported category of information. This helps preserve consistency and makes it easier to understand where important inputs originated.
Availability may vary according to:
- company and exchange coverage;
- reporting history;
- provider methodology;
- geographic availability;
- technical availability; and
- StockGeniuses product configuration.
Provider names do not imply sponsorship, endorsement, approval, or affiliation with StockGeniuses.
What StockGeniuses calculates
Financial-data providers supply underlying information. StockGeniuses builds an analytical layer on top of selected inputs.
A StockGeniuses-calculated value may differ from a similarly named value shown elsewhere because platforms may use different formulas, reporting periods, trailing-period constructions, adjusted or unadjusted prices, units, treatments of missing information, corporate-action adjustments, or model assumptions.

From source information to a clear explanation
StockGeniuses keeps the main analytical layers conceptually separate.

Company, financial, market, price, news, event, analyst, portfolio, or user-entered information provides the starting evidence.

Preparation and alignment
Relevant reporting periods, historical observations, units, metrics, and company context are organized for the intended calculation or framework.

Calculation and model output
StockGeniuses applies the formulas, assumptions, rules, eligibility requirements, and scoring logic defined for the selected framework.

AI-assisted explanation
AI translates available metrics and completed model outputs into clearer language while keeping strengths, risks, tradeoffs, and uncertainty visible.

Investor judgment
The investor reviews the evidence and limitations, then decides what the result means within their own research process.
The analytical result is produced before AI explains it. AI is not treated as the source of financial information, the analytical model itself, or a decision authority.
AI can make mistakes or misunderstand context. Users should review the underlying information and verify material facts before relying on an explanation.

News, events, and sentiment
Company news and event information can help explain what changed around a stock, but supported coverage may not capture every relevant development.
News items may:
- appear after an event has occurred;
- be revised, corrected, or removed;
- be duplicated through syndication;
- be incorrectly associated with a company;
- present only one perspective; or
- be absent from supported coverage.
The absence of a news item does not establish that no relevant event occurred.
Sentiment is an interpretation
Sentiment is a derived interpretation of supported news, text, metadata, analyst information, and market context. It is not a company-reported financial fact.
Sentiment should be considered alongside company fundamentals, valuation, financial health, price behavior, original source material, and the investor's broader thesis. It provides context, not an instruction to act.
Data freshness and update timing
Different categories of information become available and update at different times.

| Calculated metrics and models | Recalculate when an analysis is generated or when the required underlying information has been refreshed. |
| Portfolio information | Updates when supported holdings or account information changes or refreshes. |
| AI explanations | Reflect the information available when the explanation was generated. Later developments may not be included unless the explanation is generated again. |
Users should consider timestamps, reporting periods, market status, and freshness labels together with the displayed value.
StockGeniuses does not describe information as real-time unless the applicable source, timestamp, exchange availability, and product configuration support that description.
Coverage, comparability, and limitations
Financial-data coverage is not identical for every company.
Coverage and comparability may be affected by:
- the company's exchange, country, or reporting jurisdiction;
- limited or missing reporting history;
- recent listings or delistings;
- unusual fiscal calendars;
- acquisitions, disposals, or restructurings;
- amended or restated financial statements;
- changes in ticker symbols or share structure;
- differences in accounting standards, currencies, and reporting units;
- trading liquidity; and
- provider or technical limitations.
Reporting periods
Companies do not all report on the same calendar. Comparisons may be less meaningful when fiscal periods differ or sufficient history is unavailable.
Industry differences
Measures involving debt, cash flow, assets, margins, and capital structure can behave differently across industries. Not every framework is equally useful for every company.
Missing information
A missing, unavailable, stale, or non-applicable value is not the same as a reported zero. An affected calculation may be omitted, marked incomplete, or made unavailable.
Corrections and revisions
Company restatements, provider corrections, mapping changes, or methodology updates can change previously displayed metrics, models, signals, charts, and explanations.
StockGeniuses does not intentionally replace an unknown financial value with zero merely to complete a score.
Users should verify material information against appropriate primary or official sources, including company filings, investor-relations materials, regulatory disclosures, exchange information, and brokerage or custodial records.
Questions and data corrections
We want to know when information appears incorrect, incomplete, stale, or associated with the wrong company or security. Possible data issues can be reported through the Contact page.
Where possible, include:
- the company name and ticker;
- the affected page, field, metric, model, or feature;
- the value displayed;
- the relevant date, reporting period, or timestamp;
- what you believe the correct information should be; and
- a link or reference to an official filing or company disclosure.
Please do not include passwords, authentication codes, brokerage credentials, complete payment information, government identifiers, or other unnecessary private information.
StockGeniuses reviews credible reports and, where appropriate, investigates the relevant source information, mapping, calculation, or company record.
